Responsibilities

Alumni Representatives must be dues-paid NBGSA members and are required to attend their NBGSA Regional Meeting as well as the annual National Black Graduate Student Conference (NBGSC).

Other duties include the following:

  1. Report to the designated Regional Representative.
  2. Work in conjunction with designated Alumni Alumni Representative.
  3. Serve on the editorial board of Call and Response: The Scholarly Journal of the National Black Graduate Student Association, reviewing articles from individuals in area.
  4. Identify and target corporate and institutional sponsors for division.
  5. Maintain membership in key academic/professional organizations.
  6. Attend at least two discipline-related regional/national meetings annually, and develop contacts which promote NBGSA.
  7. Recruit NBGSA members from division-related local, regional, and national organizations by (1) developing a list of target organizations and (2) helping to establish partnership agreements between these organizations and NBGSA.
  8. Encourage Alumni members in your region to attend discipline-related regional/national meetings.
  9. Help develop the agenda for Alumni breakouts at NBGSA regional and national gatherings.
  10. Relay discipline-related concerns to the NBGSA leadership via your designated Regional Representative.
  11. Send one formal e-mail communication per month to Alumni members in your region.(Ideally, this should include a digest of all relevant announcements and news.)
